Quinacrine Sterilization Success Rate

Does QS ever fail?
Presently, other than a hysterectomy, no birth female control method is 100% effective. Early reports on women who had Quinacrine Sterilization show that a very small number of women became pregnant.
1 year after QS, 3 out of 100 women became pregnant.
5 years after QS, 5 out of 100 women became pregnant.
10 years after QS, 9 out of 100 women became pregnant.

These QS pregnancies occurred because the patients' tubes were not completely blocked after two insertions. However, recent improvements have been made in the technique, and now fewer women are becoming pregnant.

To improve your chances that QS will work, the Quinacrine insertions must be inserted twice (one month apart, beginning 6-12 days after your last menstruation), and another method of contraception must be used for three months following the first insertion.
